PokerStars

PokerStars sets the standard for poker rooms across the internet: right now in the world of Online Gaming there is PokerStars and then there is everybody else. PokerStars alone represents between 20-40% of the total business in the entire online gaming industry.

It boasts a top notch security team, very strong player friendly software and is more than twice as popular as the most popular network online. Remember that PokerStars is more than twice as popular as the most popular network (iPoker) and PokerStars is not even part of a network itself! PokerStars is the best place to play poker online.

PokerStars Game Selection

PokerStars offers any game imaginable.  In addition to the standard Texas Hold’em action, players will find numerous games at virtually any limit at Omaha, Omaha High/Low, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High/Low, Razz, Triple Stud, Five Card Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, 2-7 Single Draw, Five Card Omaha, Courchevel and Badugi.  There are also many version of mixed games at PokerStars.  Most games are offered in 2, 6 and 9 seat versions.  Stud games cap at 8 seats, while some fixed limit games offer 10 seats.

No Limit Texas Hold’em games are spread in short stack, standard stack and deep stack varieties.  There are also games with antes.  Short stacks have buy-ins between 25-50 big blinds.  Standard stack games have a 40-100 buy-in range, while deep stack games require a 100-250 big blinds.

Sit and gos are a big business for PokerStars.  There are countless varieties for players to choose across all games offered by the world’s most popular poker site.  In addition to standard sit and gos with a structured payout, there are Fifty50 sit and gos where half of the prize pool is based on chip counts and the other half split equally among remaining players.

PokerStars sit and gos are offered with buy-ins starting at pennies up into the tens of thousands of dollars.  Sit and gos are available with 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 18, 27, 45 and 90 seats.  There are standard, turbo and super turbo formats.  Some tournaments also feature antes.

PokerStars offers dozens of multi table tournaments every hour.  All games are featured and there are countless guaranteed prize pools.  Weekends offer special tournaments.  Saturday kicks off with tournaments as low as $2.20 and run up to $320.  Sundays offer ten massive guaranteed prize pools.  The feature is the Sunday Million with a $215 buy-in.  Life changing money may be won at PokerStars on any given day.

PokerStars offers the World Championship of Online Poker series.  It is the largest tournament series in online poker and grows each year.  The guaranteed prize pool for the 2013 events totaled $40 million.  This number was shattered when $66 million was paid out to the thousands of winners.  The main event had a first prize $1.49 million.

PokerStars Deposit Bonus

PokerStars offers a 100% up to $600 first deposit bonus.  Other currencies are accepted and the maximum bonus is tied closely to the currency conversion to USD.  Players may deposit up to three times to claim the entire bonus.  The bonus clears at a rate of 200 VPPs for every $10 of pending bonus.  PokerStars credits 5.5 VPPs for every $1 in rake paid.  The weighted contributed method is used at cash games.  This means that rake is attributed to the players that contributed to the pot.  Sit and gos and multi table tournaments credit 5.5 VPPs for every $1 in house fees.  A $10+$1 tournament would award a player 5.5 VPPs.  This is equivalent to 27.5% rakeback.  New depositing players will also receive 31 tickets to daily $1,000 freerolls during the first month of real money play.

PokerStars VIP

The PokerStars VIP program is the most prestigious in the world.  All players start out as BronzeStar.  There are seven tiers.  The highest one is Supernova Elite.  Players that obtain this tier are among the highest regarded in the world of online poker.  Supernova Elites have a VIP host known as a concierge.

Every VIP tier has its own rewards, from FPP multipliers to free entries into major events.  There is no other online poker VIP program like the one PokerStars offers.

Players may convert FPPs into cash, tournament tickets or merchandise.  All transactions are handled within the PokerStars cashier.  Tournament tickets and cash requests are handled instantly.

Personal Opinion of PokerStars

What I like about PokerStars – PokerStars is the world’s largest online poker room.  The game selection offered by PokerStars cannot be compared to any other site.  PokerStars cash games, sit and gos and multi table tournaments have exponentially more players than any other site.  This is especially true for games other than Texas Hold’em.  Any player that has access to the international PokerStars player pool should give it a try.  Support and payment processing are the best in the industry.  There is no better site in the world.

What I do not like about PokerStars – PokerStars is a well rounded online poker room.  There is nothing negative to say about PokerStars.

Has There Ever Been a Scandal at PokerStars?

PokerStars was indicted by the US Department of Justice on April 15, 2011.  It can hardly be called a scandal though.  The site paid all US players as soon as it was allowed.  PokerStars began processing US player cashouts 10 days after the indictments were unsealed.  The site paid a $731 million settlement to the US Government that included a bailout of Full Tilt Poker players.  There has not been an online poker room in history that covered a failed poker room to the extent that PokerStars did.  It continues to be the most respected online poker site in the world.

How to Deposit at PokerStars

PokerStars offers more deposit options than any other site.  These include Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Entropay, Neteller, Skrill, Paypal, electronic check, PokerStars prepaid card, Ukash, PaySafeCard, paper check and wire transfer.  PokerStars knows its customer base well and provides many localized methods as a convenience to players.  These include national debit cards and Webmoney.
